Traffic Monetization Optimization - TMO by Joseph B. LaRocco
The Traffic Monetization Optimization (TMO) strategy is the latest
approach that website owners are focusing on to generate revenues. The TMO
strategy can be put into effect faster and help generate revenue in less time
than the current Search Engine Optimization (SEO) model that many
website consultants are touting.
Website owners who want to make money from their websites focus on one or more
forms of "monetization". These revenue streams include text ads, banner
ads, the sale of products, the sale of services, e-zines, and the sale of
information like news, information or research.
TMO Strategy - Leveling the Playing Field.
1. Traffic. NetSky Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of
NetSky Holdings, Inc. (Stock Symbol: NKYH) has come up with the
Traffic Monetization Optimization (TMO) strategy. This strategy helps website
owners level the playing field when it comes to generating traffic and
monetizing their websites without relying on SEO. It should be noted, that SEO
is important and should not be disregarded. The ultimate goal of most websites,
however, is "Monetization" and the TMO strategy can effectively accomplish the
goal.
NetSky examines the various ways websites are monetized (generate
revenues). Based on the subject matter of a particular website and the target
market, NetSky then analyzes ways of increasing the revenues for that
site. The first place to start is with Traffic. Obviously the more traffic or
visitors a website receives the more likely its revenue will increase.
NetSky has strategic relationships with high traffic websites.
Arrangements are then made with these strategic partner websites, some of which
NetSky owns, to promote the other website or its products and services. Also,
many of these websites owned by or affiliated with NetSky have opt-in
databases of thousands of subscribers to electronic newsletters. Arrangements
can be made to include advertising in those electronic newsletters. There are
also some other proprietary traffic generating strategies that NetSky uses
depending on the subject matter of the particular website. NetSky charges for
its services on either a low fixed cost or revenue sharing basis.
2. Monetization. Various monetization models are examined based on the
most wanted response a website is trying to achieve. Monetization choices
include Google and Yahoo ads in which the website gets revenue on a paid per
click basis, banner ads with specific advertisers, sale of a product or
service, a paid subscription to a newsletter or an interested person calling
the website owner for a client services like business consulting, financial
advice, real estate brokerage, accounting services or website development.
3. Optimization. The NetSky TMO formula focuses on increasing
Traffic to drive the various forms of Monetization that a particular website is
using. With the TMO strategy, Traffic and Monetization can be Optimized even if
the website is losing the SEO battle. The great thing about TMO is that it can
operate separately from SEO or in conjunction with it.
SEO is based on providing numerous content pages and focusing on certain
keywords to get top rankings with the search engines like Google and Yahoo. The
top search rankings are generally considered to be the first 30 search results
which would be the first 3 pages on Google, for instance. If you can achieve a
spot on the first 3 pages of Google your site will get a large amount of
traffic.
The problem with SEO is it takes time to get top search rankings in the major
search engines like Google and Yahoo. SEO consultants charge large sums to get
you on those first three pages, but of course there are no guarantees. They
also say it takes time to get those rankings and you have to find the right
keywords.
Here's the problem with relying on just an SEO strategy.
1. There are now so many websites out there today that competition is fierce to
get a listing on the first 3 pages of the major search engines like Google
(NasdaqGS: GOOG), Yahoo NasdaqGS: YHOO) or MSN (NasdaqGS: MSFT) . You might be
able to get on those first 3 pages, but you might have to settle for keywords
with lower demand. For instance, let's suppose you have a "travel" website with
tips on travel, air fare, hotel, etc. It is going to be very hard to get top
rankings on those keywords so you would have to focus on other keywords that
are more specific and also used by fewer people as search terms. They might
include "cheap Cincinnati airfares" or "Albany travel tips".
2. Even if you are able to achieve a top search engine ranking, Google and Yahoo
are constantly changing their algorithms, which are the mathematical formulas
they use to rank websites based on keyword search terms. So you may achieve a
listing on page 1 or 2 and maintain it for a week, but then end up on page 30
for months trying to fight your way back to the top. This problem does not
exist with the Traffic Monetization Optimization (TMO) model.
3. Content is king when it comes to SEO strategy. If your website has hundreds
or thousands of pages of rich content on a focused topic, you stand a pretty
good chance of getting top search engine rankings. A prime example is
www.soccertimes.com. This website has been around for about 10
years and has over 24,000 indexed pages of great soccer content.
SoccerTimes.com ranks highly with search engines on many soccer related
keywords. Now if you are a small soccer website with less than 100 pages of
content you are going to have a hard battle when it comes to competing with
great sites like this in the SEO war.
Conclusion: The Traffic Monetization Optimization (TMO) strategy
is definitely gaining momentum with website owners. TMO will become even
more important as more and more websites are setup and fight for the highly
coveted first 3 pages of keyword search engine rankings.
