Successful Internet Marketing in Just 3 Easy Steps by Roger Sibaja
Successful Internet Marketing In Just Three Steps
By Roger Sibaja
Face it, success on the Internet is all about traffic. That is the
bottomline. You can have the world's greatest product at a ridiculously
low price, but if you don't have the traffic - you will not make money.
Those website owners that know how to generate traffic will make money intheir
sleep - guaranteed. It's a numbers game, and the numbers are huge.
Millionsof web surfers everyday, but the problem is that there are
BILLIONS ofwebsites. Those with traffic will be discovered by web surfers
in countriesthey may never even have heard of.
Marketing Internet-Style
The internet has a completely different marketing style than
traditionalmarketing. The best part about it is that most of these
techniques cost verylittle or nothing at all.
There are a few steps to making money and successful marketing
First: Build a Great Website
As I write this bullet it reminds of an old Steve Martin comedy skit, wherehe
is going to tell you how you can make a million dollars and never
paytaxes. He then says, " p dollars...?< million a get First,>
First build a great website. . . and learn how to do it yourself. I don't mean
you have to create the whole thing yourself; there are several great
do-it-yourself web design packages. With a little work you can get a
professional site done in one or two evenings.
You will often hear web designers put down templates. Comments like
"Cookie cutter templates are boring", "Your site will look like a hundred
others", "They have no flair or imagination", "They won't express the mood and
feel or your company". I agree with all these statements, and I also
think most businesses should use templates too. Sure your site may look a
lot like several other sites, but if that's because that design is simple,
clear, direct, effective and makes money for those owner's - go for it.
That is if your goal is to make a profit. Bottom line is that you are in
business. In business it is always good practice to find what works and
then model it. Profitable websites are no different.
If you want to add special database driven features, shopping carts and other
dynamic elements, hire a professional to create the main page and the basic
look of the site. It has been my experience that many designers know how to
design a gorgeous-looking site, but you need to add the content that will help
you sell. Ask your designer if he can setup your site so that you can update
and edit the pages yourself, that will save you a fortune in the long
run. Ask them if they will provide you the source code, otherwise you
will tied to that developer for life, that can be a big problem if they go out
of business or you want to change developers.
Once you have the site up and running, its time to start promoting it.
Either study up on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) or find a web developer that
knows it cold. Search Engine Traffic is the number one source for web
surfers, albeit not the only source. You can still get thousands of hits
a day without ranking
It's up to you to learn the website elements, strategies, and psychology that
get people to pull out their credit cards. If you are in the dark about good
website marketing, you won't get much out of your site.
Get some good training in this area. There are many books on the subject, and
new ones are coming out all the time. This is a rapidly changing field and a
fascinating new way to do business.
Second: Build a Targeted Email List
Every business site should strive to gather at least an email address from their
visitors.
Studies have shown that the majority of profits actually lie in the follow
up. By capturing a visitor's email address, you can follow up with an
autoresponder.
When you build an email list of targeted people that have asked for information
from you, you can cut the costs associated with traditional marketing
methods-design, printing, postage, labor, agency fees, airtime, etc. Your risk
goes down to zero, and your return on investment skyrockets.
You won't be alone either. Companies large and small are gathering email
addresses for the same reason: cheap and quick marketing. You can hardly find a
website that doesn't entice you to "log in," "sign our guest book," "get free
tips via email," or have some other strategy to get your email address. This is
all responsible, "opt in" email marketing. It is not "spam," which is sending
promotional email to any email address you can beg, borrow, steal, or buy.
Of course this begs the question. Why should someone give you their email
address? Don't we all get too much email as it is? Have you given
anyone your email address lately? If so, how were you enticed? You
must offer something they want, and give away for free (in exchange for their
email of course). It can simply be in exchange for more information, a
content rich newsletter, an ebook or use your imagination. I would
recommend that it always be something that does not cost you anything
either. You don't want to lose money, remember we are here to make a
profit.
Why should I be on your list? Make a compelling offer, give subscribers
something of value. Insider tips, tricks, and tutorials can be easily gathered
and offered to subscribers.
Send too many self-promotional pieces and other ads and people unsubscribe. Send
anything too often and they'll leave you even quicker. On the other hand, send
lots of great information with no marketing content and you'll be wasting your
time because you haven't given them a chance to buy.
Keep in mind that a small, targeted list will make more money than a big,
general list. With a targeted list you can define the wants and needs of the
people on the list and create products and services that they will want to buy.
Thirdly: A Great Product
You may have noticed that we have a one-two punch going so far. Your great
website pulls in new people, and your electronic direct mail markets back to
them. But what are you marketing?
You've got to have a product. You may already have a line of products, Encourage
feedback from your customers, and use the feedback to develop new products or
fill an unfilled niche market.
Once you've earned their trust by exposing them to your knowledge, your
customers will become much more comfortable spending money with you. This is
especially true on the Internet. People are wary of putting their
information out on the Internet and with whom they share it. Abuse that
trust and you will lose that customer forever, earn and keep their trust and
your customers will keep coming back to you.
